That Dam Fire Road

Fire Road

This spot, way back in the Los Padres National Forest, way exceeded our expectations! The pool was teeming with turtles, snakes and fish. The No Trespassing signs did make us think twice about how too not get caught! The swimming hole was so large we needed a boat and the water was completely surrounded by cliffs, we didn't even swim over and check out the 40-50 footers, 100 yards downstream. We also just jumped where it looked deep. Why? The water had 20 feet of visibility and we only saw one rock shelf, under the waterfall.

A Big Cliff Jump

The High Side

The little speck halfway down the cliff is the jumper. My guesstimate on height for this jump is about 65 feet. There are higher ledges and one that is a definate Man-Killer. It's a 25 foot tall boulder sitting 10 feet back from the 75 foot ledge. There is a rock slab sticking out into the water underneath it too. There is a small chance that the slab is 12 feet deep...no one bothered to swim over and check! There are lots of cliffs smaller than that and there is no scarcity of safe 40-60 foot jumps! We had a great time!

If people knew how to carry garbage to can, I'd post directions...but that ain't happening. This spot is pristine and there were no signs of any beer cans, broken glass or discarded clothes. Vandalism is totally non-existent and I want it to stay that way too! I do know a long way to get there so if you are really interested I'll send you that way.
