The Main Cliffs
These are the main cliffs which range in height from 30-50 feet. They are easily accessible by climbing up from the inlet between the beach and the cliff. The biggest worry while cliff jumping from these ledges is that you miss all exposed rocks while still landing on your feet. The swimming pool is about 40 feet wide and 160 feet long with an average depth of 20 feet. The shallow area is within a few feet of the edge of the peninsula (not pictured) and it drops right off to about 15 feet. This being said this is the perfect place to go cliff jumping, it has a unsurpassed variety of heights and there are no shallow obstacles. You can go from a beginning cliff jumper to a seasoned veteran all in one summer. It's set back in the coastal mountains just behind Malibu, California. It's one of many jumps in Malibu Creek State Park, one of the most scenic and threatened of California's wild places.
These ledges are accessible only by climbing onto the detoriating Rindge Dam. The cliff jump, left of the waterfall, sets exactly 70 feet above the water and is set back nearly 20 feet. It takes every inch of horizontal distance to not leave a smear on the rocks surrounding the edge of the pool. This jump is by far the craziest jump I have ever seen anywhere and it is one of the most inaccessible. To get there you have to hike up the hill on the South side of the dam. You then head north until you cross the creek where you can climb up the backside of Rindge Dam. Once up here all you have to do is climb down the ladder on the edge of the dam, circa 1926, until you can go down no further. Get on the ledge to your immediate left, crawl to the edge and jump.
The 80 Gap
The Diving Spike
The concrete spike, pictured above, is perfect to practice your style as it sits at just above 20 feet. The takeoff is stable and flat and there is nice deep water under you at all times. If that sounds too safe I have seen people run down the hill, behind the diving spike, and jump over the shallow spot under the waterfall. Jesse likes to do ariels over it, crazy little bastard!!!
