This is one of the most bone-chilling cliff jumps I have ever seen. It is also the most popular jump I have ever seen and is really well-known as a party spot for the local UCSB students, We all love Isla Vista! The pool is huge for swimming but has a very small sweet spot for cliff jumping. The most popular jump is the large rock (below) in the center of the pool. It is only about 12 feet tall so alot of people do tricks. The jump pictured above is 25-30 feet. The sweet spot is between the rocks is the little cove. There is a 40 foot jump about halfway up the tower but it requires some climbing skills. The big cliff jump ranges in height from 84 to 88 feet, depending on the pool level. The tower leans slightly out over the pool, just far enough to not hit the rock. The deep spot, in front of the tower, is not even 10 feet wide and is surrounded by barely submerged and exposed boulders. This huge cliff jump is infamous for breaking backs and killing drunks. The pool is sometimes stagnant, making for a hard hit, and the canyon acts as a giant wind tunnel. The wind gusts hard enough to push you out of the bull's eye and over the rocks and it will throw you off axis in the air. The best part of this jump is the huge crowd "cheering" you on.

Bikinis are Nice!

Under the rock that sits below the big cliff jump is an underwater cave. The entrance is on the side facing downstream. All you do is swim down about 8 feet and swim under the rock. There is even enough room to spread out your arms as you swim down to the light spot on the far side of the cave. When you see the rotten tree trunk it is safe to go up, as long as no one is about to jump. Another interesting fact is that the tower has veins of jade running through it. It's of poor quality but some of the jadestones are too big to pick up by yourself and little ones litter the trails to the swimming hole. We also found the perfect abandoned bear cave here. Just follow the trail to the beach and it's the dark hole, at about eye level, in the wall to your left. This cave has a small entrance but opens up wide enough for 6 people and 2 dogs to kick it comfortably.
